Grow together
If you're part of a church survey, your answers join an anonymous, aggregate picture your leadership can use to guide the whole community forward.
A church report that turns numbers into next steps
Every church report shows a full spiritual maturity and change profile for the whole congregation — plus open-ended comments grouped by growth stage — so leadership can see exactly where to focus.
Aggregate only, always
Individual answers are never visible to church leadership — only combined, anonymous results.
Guided support, not just a PDF
Every report is paired with support both in person and through the dashboard, to help you fully understand your survey results and your unique community makeup.
Comments, grouped thoughtfully
Open-ended responses are grouped by spiritual maturity stage, so you can see how needs shift across your congregation.
Church Spiritual Maturity Profile
142 responses"Not only has the process launched a church-wide conversation about personal growth, but our leaders are also more energized than ever about pouring their time into pastoring and mentoring. What once looked like a sociological growth problem to be solved has now come into focus as an exciting opportunity to welcome people fully into life Jesus offers."— Pastor, Michigan, U.S.
"The spiritual journey survey was a breath of fresh insight for our church. It confirmed unquantified trends, revealed valuable insight into areas of necessary teaching, and provided accurate feedback that would have been otherwise very difficult to determine. The results of our survey were both very encouraging and refreshingly sober. Thanks to this, a relevant way forward is emerging that will inform everything from preaching, small groups, outreach, Sunday worship and other areas."— Pastor, New Brunswick, Canada

Is this really anonymous?+
Yes. If you're taking the survey on your own, nothing is saved after you view your report — there's no account and no login. If you're joining a church survey, your individual answers are never shared with church leadership; they only ever see combined, aggregate results from everyone who responded. For church survey participants, individual response data is erased after it has been aggregated into the church report, and it is never shared with anyone outside that process.
How did this survey come about?+
The Jesus Journey Survey grew out of research by Dr. Dennis Orthner, a measurement specialist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Gary Best, a Canadian pastor and former national leader of the Vineyard Churches of Canada, who set out to build a statistically sound alternative to the flawed spiritual-maturity surveys many churches were already using. Their multi-year methodology is described in Dr. Orthner's paper "Assessing Spiritual Development: Reflections on Building a Community Measure" (Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care, 2021).
How many questions are there, and how long does it take?+
The survey has 63 questions and most people finish in 10 to 20 minutes. You can take it on a computer, tablet, or phone.
Can we add our own questions?+
Not currently — the question set is fixed so that results stay statistically comparable across churches and over time.
Can we preview the survey before committing?+
Yes, a sample preview of the survey and a sample report are both available on request before you purchase.
Who is the survey for?+
Anyone 16 or older — including people who are new to church, or who aren't yet sure where they stand with Jesus. This is a guide for discovery, not a test you can pass or fail. There is no maximum age.
What devices can it be taken on?+
Any device with a web browser — computer, tablet, or phone.
Can people without internet access participate?+
Yes. A printable paper version is available. Responses are then manually entered into the system by a volunteer, so everyone in your congregation can be included.
Is the survey available in other languages?+
Currently the survey is available in English only.
Is there a minimum number of participants needed?+
We recommend at least 50 participants so the aggregate results are statistically meaningful. Smaller samples can still complete a survey, but the report will note the reduced confidence.
What does our church actually receive?+
A full church PDF numeric report plus a separate report of open-ended comments grouped by growth stage, a dashboard guiding you through Prepare, Collect, Interpret, and Act, year-over-year change tracking, and Zoom onboarding and debriefing support — see pricing for what's included at each tier.
Who sees our church's report?+
The senior pastor or another designated church leader receives the full report. Individual responses are never included or identifiable. Larger churches can request additional filtered reports (for example, by campus or ministry area) for an extra fee.
Is coaching or support available beyond the report?+
Yes. Every plan includes guided support to help you interpret your results, and the Growth Plan adds ongoing monthly coaching to help turn what you learn into a real strategy for change.
How often should we run the survey?+
We recommend running it about every two years, so you can track meaningful change without survey fatigue.
What does it cost?+
Pricing for a church survey is based on the number of attendees age 16 and older — see the full breakdown in pricing. Individuals taking the survey under the guidance of a life coach or spiritual director can do so for a reduced rate.
How is our data kept private?+
Individual responses are never visible to church leadership or anyone else — only combined, anonymous results are reported. Raw individual response data is erased after it is aggregated into your church report. If you take the survey on your own, nothing is stored at all — there's no account, login, or profile to delete.
