1. Overview

Jesus Journey Survey ("Jesus Journey," "we," "us," or "our") operates the survey and reporting tools available at jesusjourney.life and myjesusjourney.life (together, the "Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to two different groups of people, whose privacy works very differently on this Service:

  • Individual respondents — people who take the Jesus Journey Survey on their own, outside of a church's group survey.
  • Church accounts — pastors, staff, or designated administrators who register a church, distribute a survey to their congregation, and receive aggregate reports.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. If you're taking the survey as an individual

When you take the Jesus Journey Survey as an individual (not as part of a church's group survey), your participation is fully anonymous. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or any other directly identifying information in order to take the survey.

Your individual answers are used only to generate your own personal results at the end of the survey. We do not maintain a profile tied to your identity, and we have no way to connect your individual responses back to you personally.

3. If you administer a church account

Church accounts work differently. When a church signs up to run a congregation-wide survey, we collect information about the church and its designated administrator(s) in order to set up the account, deliver reports, and process payment.

Church accounts use a standard self-serve sign-up: you register with your email address and a password, and you sign back in with that same email and password. Please use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential — anyone who has it can access your church's dashboard and reports.

Congregation members who respond to a church-distributed survey do so anonymously, using a join code — we do not ask them to log in or identify themselves, and their individual responses are not shown to the church. Churches receive only aggregate results (see Section 6).

4. What information we collect

From individual respondents

  • Your survey answers (used only to generate your personal result — not retained in an identifiable form after that).
  • Basic technical data common to any website visit (e.g., browser type, general device information) for security and to keep the Service running properly.

From church administrators

  • Church name, contact name, and contact email address.
  • Billing information needed to process payment for a survey wave (handled by our payment processor — see Section 7).
  • Aggregate survey results and open-ended comments submitted by that church's congregation, grouped and summarized as described in Section 6.

From congregation members responding via a church join code

  • Your survey answers, including any open-ended written comments you choose to provide.
  • We do not collect your name, email, or other identifying information as part of the survey itself.

5. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Generate your individual results (for individual respondents).
  • Compile aggregate church reports and grouped comment summaries (for church-distributed surveys).
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service, including troubleshooting and security monitoring.
  • Communicate with church administrators about their account, survey wave, or report — for example, confirming a purchase or letting you know a report is ready.
  • Process payments for paid survey tiers.
  • Comply with legal obligations where applicable.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use survey responses for advertising.

6. Data storage, retention & confidentiality

Survey data is stored in a managed Postgres database (hosted via Supabase) with access restricted to the systems and personnel needed to run the Service.

Raw-response purge policy: once a church survey wave closes and its aggregate report and comments report have been generated, we permanently delete the underlying raw, per-respondent survey rows. What remains afterward is the aggregate summary data shown in the church's report (grouped counts, averages, and comments grouped by growth stage) — not individual response records. This is a deliberate design choice: it means no one, including us, can reconstruct an individual congregation member's specific answers from a closed survey wave.

Aggregate/summary numbers and grouped comments are retained indefinitely so churches can track year-over-year change, unless a church requests deletion of their account and historical reports (see Section 9).

Open-ended comments are shown to church administrators grouped by growth stage category, not attributed to any individual respondent.

7. Payments

Paid church survey tiers are processed through Stripe, a third-party payment processor. We do not store your full payment card details on our own servers — that information is handled directly by Stripe under its own privacy policy. We retain records of the transaction (amount, date, tier purchased) for accounting and support purposes.

8. When we share information

We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We may share information with:

  • Service providers who host, secure, or operate parts of the Service on our behalf (for example, our database host, hosting provider, and payment processor), bound to use that information only to provide their service to us.
  • A church's own administrators, but only in aggregate/summary form for their own congregation — never individually identifiable survey responses.
  • Legal or safety reasons, if required to comply with a legal obligation, protect the rights and safety of Jesus Journey, our users, or the public.

9. Your rights and choices

Because individual survey participation is anonymous by design, we generally have no record tied to you that we could access, correct, or delete on your individual request — there is nothing identifying to look up.

Church administrators may contact us at any time to:

  • Update or correct their church account's contact information.
  • Request deletion of their church account and its historical aggregate reports.
  • Ask questions about how their congregation's data was handled.

Reach us using the contact details in Section 12.

10. Children's privacy

The Jesus Journey Survey is intended for respondents aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us and we will address it.

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information in our care, including restricted database access and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
